A TV presenter has left viewers horrified after eating a raw egg on air.

Although some people argue eating raw eggs, particularly after a workout, is highly nutritious, one man has taken it a step further.

Australian TikTok star Tommy Armour has gone viral on social media after revealing he not only regularly consumes raw eggs but does so shell and all.

Appearing on the Today show to explain his unusual snack, Tommy didn’t hold back on the stomach-churning details.

After a clip was played showing him shocking a supermarket worker by taking a single egg from a carton and crunching it down, hosts Alex Cullen and Jayne Azzopardi understandably had a lot of questions.

‘What’s going on here? Why are you eating raw eggs?’ Alex asked.

‘That is bit of a daily question now and I am trying to come up with a good one, but I started with the yolks, and I guess the shells got a bit jealous, so I just started to bring them in. Thought I’d get them in there,’ Tommy replied.

Questioned further about the actual reason, Tommy said he’d been told it was good for hair growth, dodging supplying a decent answer to justify his gross actions.

Explaining how he manages to down the eggs without churning, Tommy said that once he ‘got past the crunch’, he enjoyed the ‘nice gooey wet inside’.

‘You crunch them for awhile and the shell sticks around but once you get through, it’s good.’

Tommy then estimated that the day before the interview he’d eaten about seven raw eggs before speaking about people’s reactions when they’d seen him eating the eggs while filming content.

Making sure to also share he only ever ate free-range eggs; Tommy did admit he never did anything to prepare the eggs.

Instead of washing them, he sniffs and then ‘lubricates’ them in his mouth, an explanation that left the crew of the breakfast programme laughing loudly in the background.

When the time came for Tommy to show viewers him eating a raw egg live, Alex was roped in to give it a crack himself too but was clearly revolted.

Pushing the egg into his mouth, Alex started chewing but a few seconds later looked like he was about to be sick.

As Jayne looked on in horror, he jumped up from the couch and grabbed a waiting bin as bits of the yolk dribbled down his face and onto the floor.

He than spat the egg out and ran behind the couch with his back to the camera to avoid any more of the moment being captured on screen.

As the crew were heard laughing, Alex yelled out and was not impressed.

‘How do you do that!?’ he questioned Tommy, making it clear he wasn’t going to follow the same snack routine ever again.

‘I apologise to the nation for not being able to get that down,’ he then said while looking at the camera.

As expected, those watching on at home were grossed out.

‘ALEX WHAT NOOOOOOOOO ?!!!!!!’ viewer Tahnee commented on Instagram.

‘Oh yuck that’s so foul. The smell of raw egg makes me want to hurl!’ Kel posted.

‘That’s freaking disgusting,’ Lucy shared.

Meanwhile many others said it was a recipe for disaster.

‘Be careful… salmonella is ready to happen,’ Paddy warned.

Meanwhile Annie declared: ‘Imagine him cra**ing out egg shells.’

Despite Tommy’s love for raw eggs, experts advise against consuming the animal product uncooked poses the risk of contracting salmonella.

Today airs on Channel Nine in Australia.
