Maggie Grace has admitted she was ‘devastated’ when she was axed from one of the most popular shows of the 2000s, Lost.
The 40-year-old described saying goodbye to her character Shannon Rutherford after two seasons as ‘still the worst heartbreak of my career.’
Maggie revealed she did not want to leave the show about the survivors of a plane crash living on a desert island and had believed the producers were ‘gonna take [Shannon] a little further.’
She continued to The Independent: ‘I thought maybe she would do something surprising, or have another colour [to her personality].
‘Maybe she’d, at the last moment, redeem herself and be incredibly self-sacrificial in some way.
‘I guess there were flashes of it, but not in the way I hoped in terms of an arc.’

Maggie added: ‘That’s a selfish actor’s point of view. They definitely had bigger fish to fry.’
In Lost, Maggie’s character Shannon is a spoiled rich girl who develops feelings for the more sympathetic Sayid Jarrah (Naveen Andrews) after the crash.
Shannon dies when she is accidentally shot by Ana Lucia (Michelle Rodriguez), who accidentally mistakes her for an intruder. She dies in Sayid’s arms.
After Lost, Maggie went on to star in hit TV shows including The Twilight Saga and Fear the Walking Dead.

She is also known for playing Liam Neeson’s character Bryan Mills’ kidnapped daughter Kim Mills in the Taken film trilogy.
Maggie told The Independent that Liam was a ‘goof’ with a ‘completely off the wall and very dark’ sense of humour.
Her other film roles include Love, Weddings & Other Disasters, which also starred Diane Keaton, and the Arnold Schwarzenegger film Aftermath.
Maggie is currently starring in thriller Blackwater Lane about a woman who drives by a stranded motorist – who it’s later revealed had been murdered.
In 2020, Maggie announced on Instagram she had welcomed her first child with husband Brent Bushnall.
She said the shift to parenthood had been ‘the most profound and beautiful experience of my life.’
Lost ran for six seasons from 2004 and 2010, with the show’s finale sparking huge backlash.
