According to Santa Fe Beautiful Homes, at one point Kilmer listed land he owned in New Mexico for $33 million. CBS News reported that Kilmer sold most of his ranch in 2011, two years after he listed it. He ultimately lowered the price and sold the ranch land for $18.5 million, CBS News reported.

“His Pecos River ranch (with nearly six miles of the popular trout-fishing river) is about 25 miles southeast of Santa Fe and remains largely wild with canyons and pine forests,” the site reported, noting that the property also had a 5,600-square-foot “main log house.”

The site quoted Kilmer as saying, “For over a decade, I searched for a property that embodies the alluring natural majesty and splendor of the Southwest. My search finally ended here, at the Pecos River Ranch. It’s impossible to put into words the beauty and power of this land.”

At one point, according to CBS, Kilmer owed back taxes, resulting in IRS liens on his property.

Kilmer was also an artist, and he showcased his artwork on his website.
