Fans of “The Traitors” can finally put their own treachery skills to the test. NBC is officially launching an all-civilian version of the hit reality competition, giving everyday viewers the chance to outwit, outplay, and out-scheme for a massive cash prize — with none other than Alan Cumming returning as host.

The U.S. version of “The Traitors,” which streams on Peacock, has typically featured celebrity contestants, but this time the backstabbing will come from regular fans. The network confirmed that filming will begin next year, with casting applications now open at TheTraitorsUS.com.

“We are looking for smart, strategic everyday people to compete in the ultimate game of trust & treachery,” the casting call reads. Contestants will have the opportunity to win up to $250,000 — assuming they can make it to the end without being “murdered” or voted out.

NBC Brings ‘The Traitors’ to Civilian Players

In a statement, NBCUniversal Entertainment executive vice president of unscripted programming Sharon Vuong said the network is thrilled to give fans a shot at the game.

“We’re excited to bring along ‘The Traitors’ highly addictive fan base as we discover the next generation of legendary gamers and schemers,” Vuong said. “With our resident host and gameplay master of ceremonies, Alan Cumming, on board to introduce complete strangers to new epic missions and twisted gameplay, this new version for NBC offers a unique opportunity for the cast and audience to meet each other for the first time and we know it will be incredible to watch.”

The move mirrors the format of the UK and Australian editions of “The Traitors,” which have long relied on civilian contestants rather than celebrity casts.

How to Apply to Be on NBC’s Next Reality TV Hit

For the uninitiated, “The Traitors” takes place inside a remote Scottish castle, where a small number of players are secretly designated as “traitors.” Their mission? “Murder” one of their fellow players each night — removing them from the game without revealing their own identities.

The remaining contestants, known as “faithfuls,” must work together to unmask the traitors during tense round-table banishments. If all the traitors are eliminated by the end, the faithful split the prize money. But if even one traitor survives, they claim the entire pot for themselves.

The format, which debuted in the Netherlands in 2021, has since exploded into more than 30 international editions. The U.S. series premiered on Peacock in 2023, with season 1 featuring both reality TV stars and civilians. Seasons 2 and 3 went all-celebrity — and the show has only grown more popular, even winning an Emmy for best reality competition.

Season 4, expected to drop on Peacock early next year, boasts a cast including former “Real Housewives” star Lisa Rinna, actor Michael Rapaport, and NFL mom Donna Kelce. The show has already been renewed for season 5, proving that audiences can’t get enough of the deceit-filled drama.

Applications for the NBC civilian edition are open now here TheTraitorsUS.com, so fans who think they have what it takes to survive the lies, alliances, and backstabbing should get ready — because in “The Traitors,” trust is always a dangerous game.
