And Just Like That… season 3, episode 8 aired on July 17. While there are several episodes left in the season, we are well past the halfway point, and storylines should be starting to wrap up. That isn’t what appears to be happening, though. The reboot’s eighth episode suffered from a lack of cohesion and did little to advance any existing storyline. It felt flat, misaligned, and short. There is a good reason it felt short, at the very least. It was. Episode 8 was at least 10 minutes shorter than every other episode in the season, and we think Jonathan Cake’s Instagram gives away whose scenes ended up on the editing room floor.

And Just Like That… fans walked away from the show’s eighth episode feeling a bit let down. While episode 7 didn’t move the storyline along much, it was fun and captured the lightness of the original Sex and the City. Episode 8 did neither of those things. Walking away from the episode, fans took to social media to lambast the series for the lackluster episode.

If you watch carefully, you may notice that the storyline felt incomplete and almost choppy in places. It might be because scenes were cut. At the very least, it feels like they were. With a runtime that is 10 minutes shorter than a typical episode, we can only assume that multiple scenes were cut during editing. We suspect those scenes involved a new cast member. What we don’t know is why.

Jonathan Cake’s scenes must have ended up on the cutting room floor

While no one from the show has addressed why the episode was so much shorter than others in the season, Jonathan Cake may have inadvertently revealed that his scenes ended up on the cutting room floor. Cake, who has taken on the role of surly but sexy Duncan Reeves, took to Instagram to share a behind-the-scenes photo from his time on the set. The post, which went live before the episode aired, hinted at a love triangle between Carrie, Duncan, and Aidan.

Sure, it isn’t strange for Cake to do a little publicity for the upcoming episode. What is strange is that his character didn’t appear in the episode at all. Still, the actor insists the photo is from the filming of episode 8. The absence of Duncan, Cake’s post, and the short runtime have led us to believe scenes involving Duncan and Carrie may have been cut from the episode. Why they were cut is anyone’s guess, though. The character did appear in the trailer for episode 9, though, so we expect to see him back.

Introduced in Episode 5, “Under the Table,” Duncan Reeves is a brooding and well‑established biographer who divides his time between London and New York. He is working on a biography of Margaret Thatcher. Initially irritated with Carrie. Duncan has softened to his new, loud upstairs neighbor as they share their writing projects. Flirtation between the two writers could lead to more, but not if Aidan Shaw has anything to say about it.
