Jason Momoa is officially stepping back into the role of Duncan Idaho for “Dune: Part Three.” And this time, he is making it personal. The actor documented himself shaving his beard for the first time in six years, all to prepare for his return to the character that helped relaunch the “Dune” franchise.
In a video shared with fans and Variety, Momoa revealed the emotional moment as he picked up the razor once again. “Only for you, Denis,” he said, referring to director Denis Villeneuve. Moments later, visibly frustrated, he added, “Goddamnit! I hate it.” It marked the first time he shaved since filming the original “Dune” back in 2019.
Jason Momoa Shaves in Viral Video for Role In ‘Dune: Part Three’
Momoa, who portrayed swordmaster Duncan Idaho in the first âDuneâ film, is officially reprising the role for the third installment. Though the character met a dramatic end in the original movie, fans of Frank Herbertâs novels know Duncanâs story doesnât end there. In the books, heâs resurrected as a cloneâleading to speculation that director Denis Villeneuve will follow suit in âDune: Part Three.â
âOnly for you, Denis,â Momoa said in the video, referring to Villeneuve. âGoddamnit! I hate it,â he added while shaving, clearly unhappy about saying goodbye to his signature look. He explained that the last time he shaved was six years agoâfor the first âDuneâ film.
The new sequel brings back franchise stars Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya, and Florence Pugh, with exciting new additions including Momoaâs real-life teenage son, Nakoa-Wolf, and âSiloâ actress Ida Brooke. The two young actors will portray Leto II and Ghanima, the twin children of Paul Atreides and Chani.
Nakoa-Wolf Momoa Joins âDuneâ Cast Alongside His Father
Momoa recently spoke about his son Nakoa-Wolf Momoa‘s casting during a press interview with Extra, saying, âA rude awakening is what heâs in for. Heâs into the workforce for the first time. Itâs going to be good. He did it on his own. I donât want to help him, and heâs done it all on his own, and good for him.â
The proud father added, âYou want your children to be better than you, and I really, actually believe he is. I couldnât do what heâs doing at his age. Thereâs no way I could sit in a room with Denis Villeneuve and hold my own. I was on âBaywatchâ at 19. Heâs 16 and holding it down with Denis Villeneuve.â
âDune: Part Threeâ is set to hit theaters in December 2026, continuing Warner Bros. and Legendary Entertainmentâs sci-fi saga.
