'Wednesday' Season 2 Smashes Records With Massive Netflix Debut

“Wednesday” has returned to Netflix — and its comeback is already making waves around the world. The Addams Family-inspired hit is once again dominating the platform’s global charts, sparking speculation it could climb even higher than its first season’s record-breaking run.

According to Variety, Netflix confirmed that “Wednesday” Season 2 premiered on August 4 and amassed an impressive 50 million views in its first five days. That number matches the performance of the 2022 debut season, which launched with 341.1 million hours viewed over its first five days. When calculated against its six-hour, 49-minute runtime, that equaled roughly 50.1 million views — just a hair above the new season’s tally. Season 2 brings back the core series stars Jenna Ortega as Wednesday Adams, Luis Guzman and Catherine Zeta-Jones.

What makes this debut especially notable is that Season 1 dropped all eight episodes at once, while Season 2 arrived with only four episodes. The remaining four episodes, known as Part 2, are set to premiere on September 3. The staggered release means the existing episodes will continue to attract viewers over the coming weeks, while the second half’s launch could create another massive spike in numbers.

Season 1 still holds the title of Netflix’s most popular English-language TV show of all time and is second overall behind “Squid Game” Season 1. With Season 2 pulling similar numbers despite offering half as much content, there’s growing speculation that it could overtake its predecessor — or at least secure another spot on Netflix’s all-time English-language Top 10, which measures each title’s first 91 days of streaming.

‘Wednesday’ Breaks Global Record For English-Language TV Titles

Netflix also revealed that “Wednesday” Season 2 Part 1 broke the record for the most countries where an English-language TV title has hit No. 1 in a single week, topping the chart in 91 different markets between August 4 and August 10. The renewed buzz also sent “Wednesday” Season 1 back up the rankings, making it the second-most-watched English-language series of the week.

Other titles on the TV chart included “Untamed” with 7.2 million views in its fourth week, “The Hunting Wives” with 4.7 million, and “Raw: 2025” with 3 million. “Leanne” tied with “Perfect Match” Season 3 at 2.8 million views each, followed by “Amy Bradley Is Missing” with 4 million, “Ms. Rachel” with 2 million, and “Conversations With a Killer: The Son of Sam Tapes” with 1.7 million.

On the film side, “My Oxford Year” claimed the top spot with 27.2 million views, while “KPop Demon Hunters” climbed to No. 2 on Netflix’s list of most popular English-language films with 184.6 million views total, second only to “Red Notice” at 230.9 million.
