Angelina Jolie is not one of those celebrities who throw big, lavish parties that Hollywood’s elite attend, and if she does, she manages to keep it a secret. Instead, the “Those Who Wish Me Dead” actress prefers a quieter life, largely away from the public eye, and with a focus on family (she is a mom to six children).
But will her 50th birthday differ from the norm? Jolie turns 50 on June 4, and new information has been revealed about how she intends to spend her big day.
How Will Angelina Jolie Spend Her 50th Birthday?
Jolie “doesn’t want a big party,” a source said, People reports. Instead, she wants a “more intimate celebration,” but despite this, the source says she “seems genuinely excited and happy about turning 50.”
“So much of her 40s were rough. Sheâs in a much better place now,” the source said, People reports. “The kids are amazing and thriving. There is less family drama.” The last decade has seen Jolie navigate some challenging situations, including a bitter divorce from her ex-husband Brad Pitt and a custody battle over their children.
Another source shared that Jolie “is embracing the idea of turning 50 and feels more grounded than ever,” People reports. They added, “Sheâs not shying away from getting older, in fact sheâs leaning into it. Angie sees aging in a really positive light especially after losing her mom so young. She feels calm, inspired, and sheâs excited about whatâs ahead.”
What Has Angelina Jolie Said About Aging?
The comment that Jolie is looking forward to her 50th birthday does not come as a surprise, given her approach to ageing. She has previously discussed how it is a privilege to age and has come to embrace the process of growing older.
On May 30, a source told People that Jolie viewed ageing in a positive light after her mother, Marcheline Bertrand, died in 2007 after a long battle with ovarian cancer. She was 56. “[Jolie] appreciates getting older because she lost her mom young,” a source said, People reports. “Her focus is returning to her foundation work as her family needs her less.”
Jolie has also been open about ageing, and what she has to say is important because it sends the right message. “I do like being older. I feel much more comfortable in my 40s than I did when I was younger,” she told British Vogue in March 2021. “Maybe because ⦠I donât know ⦠maybe because my mom didnât live very long, so thereâs something about age that feels like a victory instead of a sadness for me.”
Jolie continued, “So I like it. Iâm looking forward to my fifties â I feel that Iâm gonna hit my stride in my fifties. Though we were on the trampoline the other day, and the children said, ‘No, Mom, donât do that. Youâll hurt yourself.’ And I thought, ‘God, isnât that funny?’ There was a day I was an action star, and now the kids are telling me to get off the trampoline because Iâll hurt myself.”
Age has also impacted how she views things in her life, including music. “Iâm 49. I do feel like an older woman now, and I embrace that,” she told IndieWire in an interview in November 2024. “When I was younger, there were certain pieces of music and certain sounds that matched what I was feeling: I was falling in love, or I was curious about this, or whatever I was going through. There is nothing that meets what youâre feeling like opera. [Some pieces] are so beautiful, so full of hope and so full of yearning.”
