Although Oscarâs return ties The Paper to The Office universe, Daniels stressed the show is not a direct spin-off. âThe thought behind [this] is that the same [documentary] crew is excited to tell a new story, and that works for us, because we’re like that crew,â he told NBC Insider.

Peacock Renews âThe Paperâ Before Its Premiere
Just one day before its September 4 premiere on Peacock, the comedy was officially renewed for a second season. This move highlights the strong early buzz for the series, which builds on the beloved world of The Office.
Variety reported that the renewal was announced on Wednesday morning by stars Domhnall Gleeson and Sabrina Impacciatore on NBC’s Today. Their appearance helped kick off the series premiere week, adding even more excitement to the launch of Peacockâs newest workplace comedy.
Co-creator Greg Daniels, who helped bring “The Office” to life, is already at work developing storylines for The Paperâs sophomore season. The early renewal gives Daniels and fellow executive producer and showrunner Michael Koman the time they need to ensure a timely return next year.
