January can be a bit of a tough month with depleted funds and festive burnout, so that’s why it’s so important we have good TV – luckily, The Masked Singer is back!

The ITV show is returning to the small screen today so the nation can once again get involved in the best guessing game.

For those unaware of the concept, a bunch of celebrities’ identities are concealed beneath gigantic costumes, and the panel of judges attempt to correctly guess who they are from their singing and some cryptic clues. Before an elimination (voted for by the studio audience, but the judges choose between the bottom two), they submit their best guess and discover if they were right. Eventually, just one person remains and they are declared the winner.

Tonight viewers can watch host Joel Dommett attempt to control the chaos on the family show, and if they’re still looking for more after the 90-minute episode then there’s some good news – for the first time, there will be a spin-off show, After Mask, which will be presented by Harriet Rose.

Joel, 39, has already teased that ‘insane names’ are hiding behind the characters. The extravagant characters include Spag bol, Bush, Tattoo, Snail and Pufferfish.

Here’s everything we know so far about the show’s return…

The panel is largely recognisable to long-term viewers with Jonathan Ross, Davina McCall and Mo Gilligan all returning.

However, there is a new face joining the lineup for the sixth series in the form of Love Island host Maya Jama, who is replacing Rita Ora.

Speaking of her new role, she said: ‘I’m such a Masked Singer fan, so joining the panel alongside Davina, Jonathan, and Mo—and of course working with Joel—is going to be so much fun!

‘I can’t wait to figure out who’s underneath all those incredible costumes, vibe to their performances, and get front-row seats to the unmaskings. I’ve watched the show for a long time, so I’m definitely bringing my A-game to the panel!’

To avoid spoilers, the best thing to do is watch live (if your Saturday night schedule allows it) and the episode airs from 7pm.

Fans don’t have to wait long for the second episode, which will be on this Sunday evening at the slightly earlier time of 6:30pm. Next week it will be replaced in the slot by Dancing On Ice, so will return to just one show per week.

A series is usually eight episodes long so the finale is likely to be February 15.

To warm viewers up for the full return, The Masked Singer aired its Christmas special on Boxing Day.

The festive edition followed the same format, but a sped-up version, so every celebrity was revealed in one episode and the winner was declared.

Frankie Goes to Hollywood frontman Holly Johnson beat out competition from This Morning presenter Josie Gibson, Strictly Come Dancing judge Motsi Mabuse, and Davina, who surprised her fellow panelists by switching roles.
