As we ring in the New Year, passionate The Masked Singer fans are settling in for a brand-new season of one of the most bonkers shows on telly.
For the uninitiated, the premise of the series is pretty simple – celebrities take to the stage to belt out massive hits.
However, while doing so, they wear elaborate head-to-toe costumes and face masks concealing their identities, with a judging panel and the public doing their best to figure out who they are before they’re eliminated.
Some of the costumes are…unique to say the least, with this year’s offering including Moth, Can of Worms, Red Panda, Conkers, Arctic Fox, Toastie, Monkey Business, Yak, Sloth, Gargoyle, Disc Jockey and Teabag.
On the first episode The One Show star Alex Jones was revealed as Disc Jockey, while Professor Green was unveiled as Teabag in episode 2, with other reveals set to follow as clues drop to give hints as to the famous faces.
Ahead of that, here’s everything we know about Toastie so far…
What clues are there for Toastie’s identity?
- Toastie belted out Aerosmith’s Walk this Way for their first performance
- When introduced to viewers, Toastie said they don’t quit under pressure and spoke about being used to criticism – leading the panel to believe they could be an ex-talent show star
- They also spoke about ”grafting’ starting ‘fresh out of the bakery’ – could have they have entered the entertainment industry as a child?
- A diamond was shown as one of the clues
- Another showed someone dressed up as a clown
- One clue showed a calendar with August 20th marked with balloons – has their birthday been revealed?
- Toastie said they were a ‘rebel with a cause’ – suggesting they are involved in charity work
- They also spoke about wanting a ‘slice of the action’
Who could Toastie on The Masked Singer be?
Rebecca Ferguson
Mo was convinced that former X Factor Rebecca Ferguson was under the costume – also linking the diamond clue to her song Diamonds In Her Shoes.
Emeli Sande
Maya’s guess was Scottish singer Emeli Sande, who referenced a clue to a clown to be linked to her song of the same name.
Fergie
Jonathan declared he was ‘blown away’ by Toastie’s ‘amazing voice’. He was convinced the person underneath was American – suggesting Black Eyed Peas star Fergie.
Craig Phillips
While the other judges all suggested women’s names, Davina threw out Craig Phillips name – saying he was involved in charity work and being convinced she’d heard a Liverpudlian accent
The Masked Singer continues Saturday at 7pm on ITV1.
