Why Mandy Patinkin’s Comical Wife Thought He Was ‘Nuts’ When They Met

Mandy Patinkin and Kathryn Grody

Mandy Patinkin made a bold move on his first date with his wife many years ago!

Kathryn Grody recalled the date while speaking with Page Six on Sunday, June 15.

“I mean, this is a guy, on our very first date, who told me he was going to marry me,” Grody told the outlet. “And I thought he was nuts because I didn’t believe in marriage.”

Grody, who is a few years older than the “Princess Bride” actor, said Patinkin wanted to move in together after only two months of dating.

“I remember saying, ‘You know, [Mandy], I’m really enjoying this part in love before we start hurting each other,’ and he looked at me and was five, six years younger than me and he said, ‘What do you mean? I love you! I’m never going to hurt you,’” she recalled Patinkin saying years ago.

Patinkin Recalls His Version of the First Date

Patinkin recalled his version of the first date while speaking with the New York Post.

The two met in 1978 while both in a New York City play called “Split.”

The “Homeland” actor decided to wait until after the play closed to ask Grody out.

“I wouldn’t ask her out until the play was over, because I got burned once, with somebody I was working with,” Patinkin began. “When the play was over, we went out for the first brunch on Sunday at the Black Sheep Tavern at Greenwich and Washington Street on the corner.”

Patinkin remembered buying flowers before the date to give to Grody.

“I handed them to her and I said, ‘I’m going to marry you,’” he added. “And she said, ‘You don’t know what you’re talking about. You’re an actor, and a baby and you’re gonna get hurt.’”

The two ended up getting married in 1980 and have two sons, Isaac and Gideon.

The Two Are Starring in a Show Together

Patinkin and Gordy have a new TV show called “Seasoned.” They are set to play exaggerated versions of themselves as they comedically go through everyday life.

The pilot premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival on June 11 and is currently seeking distribution, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

The show was previously picked up by Showtime, but was dropped due to finances.

Patinkin jokingly told the outlet, “We really hope to have this show out there very soon, before we drop dead. Which is right around the corner.”
