Amid all the secrets, scandals, and small-town drama, “Ginny & Georgia” has always been a story about familyâmessy, complicated, and deeply human. Even as murder trials unfold and relationships unravel, the heart of the series beats strongest in its quiet, intimate moments.
Now, Scott Porter is reflecting on one of Season 3âs most emotional scenesâand the emotional weight that came with filming it.
The actor, who plays Paul, opens up about the intense atmosphere on set and the trust it took to bring such a charged moment to life.
Scott Porter Reflects on Tough Ginny & Georgia Season 3 Scene
The 45-year-old actor took to Instagram shortly after the new episodes hit Netflix to reflect on the controversial scene that has fans buzzing, writing:
âThe aftermath of âthat scene.â That day was so tough. But it was also beautiful, and safe, and full of support.â
Porter shared a behind-the-scenes photo of himself alongside co-star Brianne Howey and director Sharon Lewis, all of whom were clearly still emotionally charged after wrapping the scene.
âThis is ⦠the moment after we cut on the scene. Captured beautifully by our on-set photog @amsetstills,â he wrote. âWhen you are charged with delivering something like we were that day, all you can do is give yourself to it. To trust the people you stand across from and those surrounding you, those behind the monitors and back in the writers room.â
Inside âThat Sceneâ â And Why Porter Almost Didnât Do It
Season 3 finds newlyweds Paul (Porter) and Georgia (Howey) facing a storm of secrets, lies, and explosive arguments. Things hit a breaking point when Georgia uses her daughter Ginnyâs (Antonia Gentry) positive pregnancy test to manipulate Paul into staying â a betrayal that leads to a confrontation where Paul punches a wall above Georgiaâs head, triggering her PTSD.
âAs a person and fan invested in the show, I was very resistant to hitting the wall. I was very like, âI canât do this. Paul canât do that,ââ Porter told Us Weekly in June.
It was “Ginny & Georgia” director Sharon Lewis who convinced him to move forward with the brutal scene. âAnd our director Sharon said, âWeâre doing it and it has to be done. But itâs coming out of hurt and itâs not out of anger.ââ
Bringing Heart to a Painful Moment
Porter has played Paul since Season 1 and said the emotional complexity of the scene took a lot of care and preparation.
âWe really tried to utilize that in that scene and keep a lot of his frustration down and a lot more of his broken heart came out,â he explained. âThe moment that actually I think clicked for me the most was in that scene when Georgia says the words, âI canât trust you,â to Paul.â
Despite the intensity, they didnât need many takes.
âThat was a messy scene and it was a messy day â but we did not do too many takes of it. We were so prepared. ⦠It was just so emotionally charged and we felt really good about it leaving that day â even though the content is really rough. I guess itâs on TikTok everywhere [now].â
âHe Never Meant to Hurt Herâ
Scott Porter says Paulâs now-viral wall punch wasnât about rageâit was about heartbreak.
âThereâs an immediate regret for Paul at that moment. He never ever meant to hurt her. That was never his intention,â Porter shared. âBut he is somebody who wants a family and he didnât know that before he met her.â
Paulâs love for Georgiaâs kids deepened the emotional weight.

âHeâs somebody who loves [her kids], Austin and Ginny, and has stepped in and said, âI will be there for them as a father figure.â Thatâs a really tough thing to do to invest in,â he added. âI have a stepfather who came into my life at 6 years old and said, âYou are not my blood, but I will be your father.â We tried to bring some of that to Paul.â
Still, context isnât an excuse.
âHe is out of his body at that point a little bit. But Iâm not saying he was right. Iâm not condoning the action. But definitely I can see what put him there in that moment.â
âI Marvel at Our Teamâ
In his Instagram post, Porter credited the Ginny & Georgia crew for handling the scene with care. âThatâs what we do a lot on our show. Sharon led the way for us on this, and she was so open and clear on what we needed, how to deliver the intent of our creator and writers who carefully crafted this scene. And Bri delivered every time. Like always.â
He ended with a heartfelt tribute to the cast and crew: âI donât have to do it nearly as often as the rest of our cast. I hope it landed how they hoped. I marvel at them, at our team. And I thank them all every day.â
