The cast of the hit film âWickedâ has opened up about their friendship and the close bond they have developed since filming on the two-part movie series began. Both Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande discussed the relationship between them while promoting âWicked: For Goodâ at a public event.
Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande Talk About Their Unbreakable Bond
In a Q&A hosted by Variety at the Saban Media Center Wolf Theater during a Screen Actors Guild  NomCom consideration screening, both Evrio and Grande were open about how close they have become in recent times after working together on the âWickedâ films.Â
Evrio explained how Grande and herself had gone through tough times together while making the movies, something which had brought them closer. She also alluded to the recent incident that saw Grande being accosted by a man in Singapore, where she was quick to jump into action to protect her friend by removing him as quickly as possible.
âWe have come through some s**t,â Erivo told the audience. âI mean, f**k even this last week, letâs be honest.â
She went on to say that everyone involved in the film had become close and that it was unusual for such a large number of people to get along so well. âYou donât get a group of people this close often on a set, you donât earn family like this often,â Erivo revealed.
Grande agreed with her co-star and was effusive in her praise for Evrio. Describing her as a âlifelong sister,â Grande went on to say that the fact she was able to work with her and can now call her a friend is âabsolutely the greatest gift of my life.â
Ariana Grande Spreads Love After Fan Incident
Grande was grabbed by a man, later named as Johnson Wen, while walking alongside Evrio, Michelle Yeoh, and Jeff Goldblum during a promotional event at Universal Studios Singapore. The man had jumped over a barricade and avoided security to run at Grande, although he was quickly removed after Evrio intervened and guards arrived.Â
Despite the traumatic event, Grande still posted a message of love when referencing her time in the country. Accompanying an Instagram post about her time in Singapore, Grande said, âThank you, Singapore â¡ we love you.â
The incident was likely particularly distressing for Grande following the 2017 bombing at her concert in Manchester in the United Kingdom. The singer and actor has spoken honestly about suffering from PTSD since the terrorist attack.Â
âYeah, itâs a real thing. I know those families and my fans, and everyone there experienced a tremendous amount of it as well,â Grande told British Vogue. âItâs hard to talk about because so many people have suffered such severe, tremendous loss ⦠I feel like I shouldnât even be talking about my own experience â like I shouldnât even say anything. I donât think Iâll ever know how to talk about it and not cry.â
