On Thursday morning, Shatner posted a photo of himself sporting a mustache and addressed the situation directly. “Rumors of my demise have been greatly exaggerated,” he wrote, adding, “I over indulged. I thank you all for caring but I’m perfectly fine. I keep telling you all: don’t trust tabloids or AI!”

His agent, Harry Gold, confirmed to TMZ that the actor experienced a blood sugar issue at his Los Angeles home Wednesday afternoon. Paramedics were called as a precaution, and Shatner was taken to the hospital, where doctors checked him out and quickly released him.

The actor, who has been candid about his health in the past, used humor to reassure fans that the situation was under control.

The ‘Star Trek’ Legend Reflects On Past Health Battles

This is not the first time Shatner has faced health challenges. The New York Post reports that in March 2024, the “Boston Legal” star announced he had been diagnosed with stage 4 melanoma. At first, he was told by his family doctor not to worry about a lump under his ear, but a second opinion revealed the lump was far more serious.

“It was melanoma, stage 4,” Shatner recalled to Healio. “I said, ‘Stage 4?’ And someone in the room said, ‘Sorry.’ I said, ‘What are you sorry about?’ It was like, ‘Better pack your things.’ That person who said ‘sorry,’ that was very sad, like ‘You are going to die.’”

Fortunately, Shatner underwent surgery and credited a strict immunotherapy regimen with saving his life. He has since been declared cancer-free.

In addition, Shatner has long suffered from “permanent” tinnitus, a condition caused after he was too close to a special effects explosion while filming the “Star Trek” episode “Arena” in 1967. According to the Mayo Clinic, tinnitus can cause ringing or other noises in one or both ears and may be temporary or chronic.

In 2021, Shatner became the oldest person ever to travel to space, joining Jeff Bezos’ Blue Origin mission. The milestone was chronicled in the Amazon special “Shatner in Space.”

“My time in space was the most profound experience I could have ever imagined,” Shatner said at the time.

Looking ahead, he will next appear in “Family Tree,” a holiday dramedy he co-created and stars in alongside Tom Bergeron, according to Deadline. Production is slated to begin in 2026.

For now, Shatner is letting fans know that he is “perfectly fine,” proving once again that Captain Kirk is not slowing down.
