William Shatner is reassuring fans that he is in good health following reports that he was rushed to the hospital earlier this week. The 94-year-old âStar Trekâ legend took to Instagram to calm speculation, explaining the incident was minor and that he remains in good spirits.
William Shatner Shares Health Update After Hospitalization
On Thursday morning, Shatner posted a photo of himself sporting a mustache and addressed the situation directly. âRumors of my demise have been greatly exaggerated,â he wrote, adding, âI over indulged. I thank you all for caring but Iâm perfectly fine. I keep telling you all: donât trust tabloids or AI!â
His agent, Harry Gold, confirmed to TMZ that the actor experienced a blood sugar issue at his Los Angeles home Wednesday afternoon. Paramedics were called as a precaution, and Shatner was taken to the hospital, where doctors checked him out and quickly released him.
The actor, who has been candid about his health in the past, used humor to reassure fans that the situation was under control.
The ‘Star Trek’ Legend Reflects On Past Health Battles
This is not the first time Shatner has faced health challenges. The New York Post reports that in March 2024, the âBoston Legalâ star announced he had been diagnosed with stage 4 melanoma. At first, he was told by his family doctor not to worry about a lump under his ear, but a second opinion revealed the lump was far more serious.
âIt was melanoma, stage 4,â Shatner recalled to Healio. âI said, âStage 4?â And someone in the room said, âSorry.â I said, âWhat are you sorry about?â It was like, âBetter pack your things.â That person who said âsorry,â that was very sad, like âYou are going to die.ââ
Fortunately, Shatner underwent surgery and credited a strict immunotherapy regimen with saving his life. He has since been declared cancer-free.
In addition, Shatner has long suffered from âpermanentâ tinnitus, a condition caused after he was too close to a special effects explosion while filming the âStar Trekâ episode âArenaâ in 1967. According to the Mayo Clinic, tinnitus can cause ringing or other noises in one or both ears and may be temporary or chronic.
William Shatner Is Breaking Records and Keeping Busy at 94

In 2021, Shatner became the oldest person ever to travel to space, joining Jeff Bezosâ Blue Origin mission. The milestone was chronicled in the Amazon special âShatner in Space.â
âMy time in space was the most profound experience I could have ever imagined,â Shatner said at the time.
Looking ahead, he will next appear in âFamily Tree,â a holiday dramedy he co-created and stars in alongside Tom Bergeron, according to Deadline. Production is slated to begin in 2026.
For now, Shatner is letting fans know that he is âperfectly fine,â proving once again that Captain Kirk is not slowing down.
