WWE superstar Cody Rhodes has revealed what John Cena said to him during their passing of the torch moment on Raw.

In a matter of weeks, the American Nightmare is set to face Roman Reigns for the Undisputed WWE Universal Title at WrestleMania 39 in Hollywood, and he was brought out to a cheering crowd by 16-time world champion Cena earlier this week.

The surreal sight of Cena hyping up Cody, who famously left WWE in 2016 and went on to help set up rival promotion All Elite Wrestling (AEW), came after the wrestler turned actor confirmed he will also be fighting at ‘Mania.

After accepting Austin Theory’s challenge for a United States Title match, Cena made his way up the ramp and called out the former Intercontinental Champion to an incredible ovation.

The pair then hugged before the Peacemaker star raised Cody’s arm, and the latter has since revealed part of what the 21-year WWE veteran told him.

Sharing a photo of them from Raw on Twitter, he wrote: ‘“Reward their noise, every time…” Thank you @JohnCena #WrestleMania’.

Fans noticed how special a moment it was, with plenty of people replying to Cody’s post to give their thoughts.

‘Real recognises real,’ replied one viewer, while another person added: ‘Love to see it. This all feels very special. It’s a good time to be a fan.’

It was almost a year ago at WrestleMania 38 when Cody made a sensational return to WWE as Seth Rollins’ mystery opponent, although a brutal injury derailed his fairy tale story last summer.

He made his comeback at the Royal Rumble and won to set up his huge world title match, while fans are excited to see Cena on the big stage for the first time in years.

His match with Theory will be his first advertised, proper singles match at WrestleMania since beating Rusev at WrestleMania in 2015.

WWE Raw airs Monday nights at 1am on BT Sport.
