For those eternally on the hunt for a new foreign-language drama to keep you ticking over, Channel 4 stays in ready supply.

The latest addition to the streaming service’s Walter Presents channel is Incognito, a Dutch thriller the broadcaster has billed as a ‘taut’ six-part watch.

With subtitles to keep you in the loop, this one takes us deep into the world of intelligence and espionage, with another troubled cop to add to TV’s overflowing back catalogue of the type.

In this instance, Felix Hartman, played by Dragan Bakema, is an undercover agent who is rescued from a near-death drowning by single mum and accountant Lize Berg, played by Melody Klaver.

But it turns out that there’s no such thing as an altruistic act in the eyes of deep surveillance, as she’s soon under suspicion for being an undercover terrorist.

And it’s not just any run-of-the-mill anarchist she’s suspected of being, but a kingpin radical known simply as Samantha. (That could be anyone though, right?)

Suspicions suitably aroused, a troubled Felix is told by his superiors to infiltrate Lize’s life, forcing him to get ‘dangerously up close and personal’ to find out what’s what, as the Channel 4 synopsis bills.

But this plan, almost inevitably, goes awry because Felix is dragged into a game of cat and mouse he’s ill-equipped for.

The show originally aired in 2023 in the Netherlands, but has now hit UK screens through Channel 4 and currently holds a 6.5 rating out of 10 on IMDb.

What other thrillers can I stream?

  • The Iris Affair. The story of Iris Nixon, who is invited to work for a charismatic entrepreneur after solving a series of complex online puzzles and quizzes.
  • Frauds. It’s hard to go far wrong when two of Britain’s best actors go toe-to-toe in a heated heist drama that delves into messy friendship.
  • Hotel Costiera. Set around the titular luxury hotel and promises a blend of action, comedy, plus romance – so nearly all the bases are covered.

The Guardian’s write-up of the drama said that while it doesn’t feel like it’s doing anything overly fresh, it does have a premise that ‘keeps you guessing’.

It’s worth saying that the show ends on something of a cliffhanger – not a spoiler beyond that here – and while Incognito hasn’t had a second season as of yet, the star of the piece, Dragan Bakema, has said in the Dutch press that he would very much like to make more of the show.

So we’ll have to see if anything more comes! But, for now, those six episodes await.

Incognito is available to stream on Channel 4.
