Actress Zooey Deschanel shared a touching tribute to Rob Reiner and his wife after the couple’s tragic deaths. Reiner played Deschanel’s character’s dad on the show “New Girl.”

A day after the tragic deaths of Reiner and his wife Michele, Deschanel took to Instagram to share a touching tribute.
“My heart is broken. Rob Reiner was the absolute warmest, funniest, most generous of spirits,” she wrote in the caption. “A truly good human being. An incredible artist and such a playful and fun collaborator. I cherish the time we spent working together and the many films he made that have shaped who I am.”
Deschanel continued, “Rob and his lovely wife Michele were always so kind and it brought me so much joy any time I was lucky enough to see them.”
“I’m absolutely devastated,” she added, “Sending so much love to their family and friends.”
Fans flooded the comments section with their condolences. “Shocked and saddened, how absolutely senseless,” one fan wrote. “His role as Jessica’s dad was one of my favorites. Thinking of you and the entire ‘New Girl’ family.”

Jamie Lee Curtis Issues Statement: ‘We Have Lost Great Friends’
Jamie Lee Curtis, who played Deschanel’s character’s mom on “New Girl,” and her husband, Christopher Guest, who starred in “This Is Spinal Tap,” released a statement.
“Christopher and I are numb and sad and shocked about the violent, tragic deaths of our dear friends Rob and Michelle Singer Reiner and our ONLY focus and care right now is for their children and immediate families and we will offer all support possible to help them,” she wrote.
“There will be plenty of time later to discuss the creative lives we shared and the great political and social impact they both had on the entertainment industry, early childhood development, the fight for gay marriage and their global care for a world in crisis,” the statement noted.
“We have lost great friends. Please give us time to grieve,” they added.
