A 31-year-old man was killed and a 37-year-old woman seriously hurt in a shooting early Thursday in the Calumet Heights neighborhood.
At about 2:40 a.m. in the 9200 block of South Merrill Avenue the woman was standing in her backyard when she heard gunshots and felt pain, and realized she was shot in the thigh and back, police said.
Then, police found another victim in the 9100 block of South Merrill Avenue, a man who was dead on the scene.
Fire department paramedics treated the woman and took her to the University of Chicago Medical Center in serious condition.
No one was arrested and Area 2 detectives are investigating.
