1 dead, 6 wounded after mass shooting at prayer vigil in Little Village

Seven people were shot, one fatally, at a prayer vigil in Little Village Saturday night, police said.

The people were gathered for a vigil on the front lawn of a home in the 2500 block of South Spaulding Avenue when someone got out of a Jeep and fired shots into the crowd shortly after 10 p.m., according to Chicago police.

A 31-year-old man was struck multiple times, and he was pronounced dead at Mount Sinai Hospital.

The other victims also went to Mount Sinai Hospital, where they were all listed in fair condition.

Another man, 31, was shot in the right thigh. A 51-year-old man was shot in the buttocks, and a 35-year-old man suffered a graze wound to the top of the head. Another man, 39, was shot in the left leg and right hand. A 48-year-old man and a man estimated to be in his 30s were also shot in the leg.

No one is in custody, and Area Four detectives are investigating.
