Aug. 6-31 — Los Angeles Shakespeare in the Park: The annual Griffith Park Free Shakespeare Festival runs at 7 p.m. Wednesdays through Sundays. Christopher Marlowe’s “Doctor Faustus” is the August selection. (It might be too scary for kids.) Performances at the Dell atop the Old Zoo. General admission, but reservations are requested due to space limitations. Bring a picnic, blanket or low-back chairs. No liquor or dogs. Aug. 7, 14, 21— OC Concerts in the Park: Elton the Early Years tribute show plus Shea Givens at Irvine Regional Park, 1 Irvine Park Road, Orange (Aug. 7); No Duh, a No Doubt tribute band,at Bluff Park at Salt Creek Beach, 33333 Pacific Coast Highway, Dana Point (Aug. 14); Boy Band Review at Salt Creek Beach (Aug. 21). Aug. 23  — Concert in Granada Hills: Learn about Japanese classical guitar with Misha Kreinbring at 3:30 p.m. He will introduce Japanese film music and then play contemporary music from Japan.
