16-year-old boy critically wounded in South Chicago drive-by

A 16-year-old boy was critically wounded Tuesday morning during a drive-by shooting in the South Chicago neighborhood.

He was in the 8700 block of South Marquette Avenue around 8:55 a.m. when a black car approached and someone inside opened fire, Chicago police said.

The boy was shot in the head and was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center where he was in critical condition, police said.

No one was in custody and Area 2 detectives are investigating.
