17-year-old fatally shot in Grand Crossing

A 17-year-old boy was standing on a sidewalk in Grand Crossing when an unknown car pulled up and someone inside fired several shots at him early Sunday, Chicago police said.

The boy was in the 7600 block of South Prairie Avenue when he was shot in the shoulder around 4 a.m. He was taken to University of Chicago Medical Center where he later died, police said.

The car with the shooter fled west on 76th Street and no one is in custody, according to authorities.

At least five other shootings happened overnight in the city:

  • An 18-year-old man was shot several times around 9:45 p.m. Saturday in the 9100 block of South Wabash Avenue in Roseland. He was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center in serious condition.
  • At the same time, in Portage Park, a 57-year-old man tried to stop someone from breaking into his car in the 5800 block of West Cornelia Avenue. The person attempting to get into his car pulled out a gun and shot the man in the left leg. He was taken to Loyola Medical Center in fair condition.
  • In Humboldt Park, three men were standing outside around 10 p.m. in the 1100 block of North California Avenue when a car pulled up and someone fired several shots at them. There were no other details reported, including whether the men were injured.
  • A 23-year-old man was dropped off at Advocate Trinity Hospital around 2 a.m. Sunday suffering gunshot wounds to his neck and lips. He was in critical condition. Police had no additional information on what happened to him.
  • In Hermosa, a 34-year-old man was shot in the arm around 2 a.m. in the 4000 block of West Cortland Street. He took himself to Ascension Saint Mary’s Hospital where he was listed in good condition.

Also around 4 a.m. in Woodlawn, a 34-year-old man was stabbed in the abdomen by two people trying to rob him in the 700 block of East Marquette Road, police said. He was taken to St. Bernard Hospital in stable condition.

No one is in custody for any of the incidents, police said.
