2 arrested after chase, shooting outside police station ends in Humboldt Park crash

Two people were in custody after shooting an unoccupied Chicago police car Sunday night outside the Grand Central Police District station while firing at two men they were chasing on the Northwest Side, police said.

The suspects then led police on a nearly 3-mile chase, ending in Humboldt Park after hitting parked cars.

The victims, two men, were traveling in a vehicle around 11:30 p.m. when someone in a silver car — which began driving alongside them — pointed a gun at them at Cicero and Addison avenues, Chicago police said.

The victims sped away about 3 miles south, directly to the Grand Central Police District station at 5555 W. Grand Ave., but the silver vehicle continued to follow them, police said.

Suddenly, one of the occupants pulled a gun again and opened fire, hitting the vehicle the men were in, as well as an unoccupied police patrol car, officials said.

The suspects sped away before crashing into parked vehicles nearly 3 miles away in the 1500 block of North Pulaski Road in Humboldt Park. They then jumped out of their car and led police on a foot chase before finally being arrested, authorities said.

A weapon was recovered, and charges were pending.

No injuries were reported.

Area 5 detectives are investigating.
