2 Chicago police officers injured in Gage Park crash when driver runs red light

Four citations were written to a motorist who ran a red light and plowed into a police squad car, injuring himself and two cops early Wednesday in Gage Park on the Southwest Side.

Around 4:30 a.m., a 51-year-old man driving north on California Avenue ran a red light and ran into a marked squad car, which was going west on 51st Street, Chicago police said.

Both officers in the squad car were taken to an area hospital where they were in good condition, police said.

The man suffered a head injury and was taken to Holy Cross Hospital where he was in fair condition, officials said.

Four citations were issued to the man.
