Two people died after the small plane they were in crashed shortly after taking off Wednesday at DuPage Airport near suburban West Chicago, according to authorities.
The Federal Aviation Administration said a Piper PA-30 crashed after departing from the airport around 1:50 p.m. Two people were on board, according to the FAA.
Both of those people, two men, were pronounced dead at the scene, the DuPage Airport Authority said in a statement.
Officials did not provide details about how or why the plane crashed.
DuPage Airport officials are coordinating with the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board, which will lead the investigation to determine the cause of this accident, the airport said in its statement.
The identities of the men who died were not released.
DuPage Airport and the local airspace were closed due to the crash, authorities said.
