Classes were canceled Tuesday in Elbert County as the search continued for two middle school girls who disappeared from a basketball game the night before, according to the school district.
The girls, who have not been publicly identified, were last seen leaving Elbert School at 5 p.m. Monday, according to the school district.
School district officials said the missing girls were members of the Colorado Springs School basketball team. Both girls had their backpacks and were last seen wearing blue shorts and hoodies.
Elbert School, 24489 Main St., will serve as the incident command post for search and rescue efforts on Tuesday, according to the school district.
Anyone with information on the girls’ whereabouts is asked to call 911.
This is a developing story and will be updated.
