Two women were taken to a hospital in critical condition after being shot at Spartan College of Aeronautics and Technology in Inglewood on Friday, May 2, authorities said.
As of 6 p.m., a person linked to the shooting was in custody, NBC4 reported.
The station said according to Inglewood police Captain Neal Cochran, the suspected gunman appears to be a security guard who worked at the college for 5 years.
The shooting occurred in the 8900 block of Aviation Boulevard, between Arbor Vitae Street and Hillcrest Boulevard, the Los Angeles County Fire Department said.
Sky5 footage showed officers and L.A. Fire Department crews responding to a building where the suspect was reportedly barricaded before fleeing the campus, KTLA reported.
The two victims also were employees at the college, according to broadcast reports. The women were transported to a local trauma center.
It was unclear what motivated the shooting, as multiple law enforcement agencies arrived at the scene to establish a perimeter to conduct separate investigations.
Initial reports indicated that the suspect was armed with a rifle, Inglewood Mayor James T. Butts said.
Butts confirmed that a 9mm shell casing was found at the scene and noted that DNA or fingerprint evidence may be present on it.
No further details were provided.
This is a developing story. More information will be added when it becomes available.
