Los Angeles voters are choosing three City Council members in the Nov. 5 election, with two incumbents running in two of the races. The initial round of results was composed entirely of vote-by-mail ballots that arrived before Election Day.
In the San Fernando Valley’s District 2, which stretches from North Hollywood to Toluca Lake, it’s former state legislator Adrin Nazarian facing off against newcomer Jillian Burgos.
In District 10, which includes Mid-City, Leimert Park and Baldwin Hills, Heather Hutt — who was appointed to the vacant seat by the city council — faces off against attorney and community activist Grace Yoo.
In District 14 which includes downtown L.A. and several Eastside communities, voters are deciding if Kevin de Leon retains his seat following criticism over a private meeting at which he and other city officials made racist comments that were leaked to the public and made national headlines. De Leon is being challenged by tenant rights attorney Ysabel Jurado.

District 2: San Fernando Valley voters were leaning toward former state Assemblymember Adrin Nazarian and his challenger Jillian Burgos was trailing. They were vying for the L.A. City Council seat in the Valley that, due to term limits, is being vacated by Councilmember Paul Krekorian, who represented the district for 15 years.
Nazarian served as chief of staff for then-Assemblymember Krekorian from 2006 until Krekorian’s election to the city council in 2010 and continued in that role under Krekorian at Los Angeles City Hall.
Burgos, a small business owner, healthcare worker and neighborhood council member, said that if elected she would become the first Afro-Latina on the city council.
District 10: Councilmember Heather Hutt was well ahead of Grace Yoo. Hutt was appointed to the Los Angeles City Council in September 2022, to take over the empty seat left by former Councilmember Mark Ridley-Thomas.
Huff had served as statewide director for U.S. Senator Kamala Harris and worked as chief of staff to former L.A. City Councilmember Herb Wesson. Among her priorities, she wants to tackle homelessness and support small businesses.
Grace Yoo is an attorney with expertise in estate planning who has advocated for abused and neglected children at L.A. County’s Children’s Law Center and has held positions as executive director for the Korean-American Coalition and the National Asian-Pacific American Bar Association.
District 14: Voters in District 14 were leaning toward Ysabel Jurado as incumbent Kevin De León sought another four-year term to represent his predominantly Latino community. Challenger Jurado, a tenant rights attorney, came in first in the primary election.
De Leon faced a campaign in which many criticized him after he made national headlines in 2022 when a secretly recorded tape from October 2021 captured Ron Herrera, president of the Los Angeles County Federation of Labor, along with Los Angeles City Council members De León, Gil Cedillo, and Nury Martinez, making racist comments. And candidate Jurado was recently criticized for saying “expletive the police” at a meeting with students at Cal State Los Angeles.
