Three people are facing charges in connection with the slaying of a Chicago postal service worker who was found fatally shot in suburban Orland Park on March 20.
Kiraun Williams, 29, Tyshann Boyd, 28, and Alexis Hernandez, 20, were arrested in August, months after Mechellea Williams was found shot to death inside a vehicle in Orland Parkl, police said.
Williams is charged with murder; Boyd is charged with possession of a stolen vehicle; and Hernandez is facing an obstruction-of-justice charge, according to police. Boyd and Williams are from Chicago, and Hernandez is from Crete.
Hernandez was arrested Aug. 12, and Williams was taken into custody three days later in Las Vegas, police said. Boyd was arrested Aug. 20. He is also charged with unlawful use of a weapon by a felon.
Williams was flown back to Cook County on Tuesday, and he appeared in court Wednesday, where he was ordered held pending trial, police said.
On March 20, officers responded to reports of shots fired in the 17000 block of Pond Willow Drive and found Mechellea Williams, 28, with multiple gunshot wounds inside a 2020 Nissan Maxima parked on the side of the road, police said.
The mother of three was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
She was a member of the National Association of Letter Carriers Branch 11 of Chicago, the union said.
Dozens of her family and friends gathered at her home in the 100 block of East 119th Street in Chicago to remember the day after the shooting.
Williams’ youngest sister Erykah Williams said during the memorial that her sister was “always laughing.” The family shed tears and embraced as they shared stories.
“My nephews, my family, we’re hurting,” Williams said then. “All we want is justice, so if anybody knows anything just let us know. … She did not deserve this.”
