The 40th Annual Kingdom Day Parade had been set for January 18, but its organizers have announced that the parade will be postponed to focus on “the safety and well-being of Los Angeles residents amid ongoing wildfire recovery efforts.”
In a prepared statement, the King Day Committee said the postponement was backed by community leaders and Mayor Karen Bass’ office.
“We want to ensure our city’s emergency agencies can continue to serve the communities that need them most,” said Adrian Dove, chairman and executive producer of the parade.
“This decision reflects our respect and compassion for those affected by this monumental tragedy,” Dove said. “Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. stood for service and love for our neighbors.”
Sabra Waddy, the president and event producer of the parade, said, “We look forward to gathering soon to celebrate Dr. King’s enduring legacy of peace, unity, and service.”
The organization is helping in relief efforts in the wildfire areas in Los Angeles County.
