49ers’ George Kittle, wife Claire congratulate Mitty basketball star McKenna Woliczko on commitment to Iowa

McKenna Woliczko’s college commitment to Iowa is making waves around the Bay Area.

Even San Francisco 49ers tight end George Kittle is weighing in about the five-star Archbishop Mitty basketball senior’s announcement Wednesday morning. Kittle, a former Iowa star, filmed a video congratulating Woliczko that was posted on the 49ers Cal-Hi Instagram page.

Joined by his wife Claire, a former Iowa women’s basketball player, Kittle told Woliczko: “We think you’re going to have a pretty fun time.”

“We had the absolute best time there,” Claire added. “We met our best friends. We met each other, and there’s nothing like playing basketball for the Big Ten.”

Kittle was a star tight end for the Hawkeyes from 2012-16 before he was drafted by the 49ers in the fifth round of the 2017 NFL draft. Claire played at Iowa from 2012-16 as well before her career ended with a chronic knee injury.

Claire’s mother was a high school teammate of current Iowa coach Jan Jensen.

“If you need anything, need any help, just reach out to us,” Kittle left off. “We have a couple connections still. But have so much fun, and congratulations again.”

The couple then signed off with, “Go Hawks.”
