5 hospitalized as vehicles pile up near Burbank Airport in crash that blocked Metrolink train

A three-car crash near Hollywood Burbank Airport in North Hollywood Tuesday morning ended with one vehicle on top of another and a second on its roof.

None of the six people assessed at the scene appeared to have suffered critical injuries in the 6:40 a.m. crash at the intersection of Vineland Avenue and Vanowen Street, said Margaret Stewart of the Los Angeles Fire Department.

Five of the patients had non-life-threatening injuries and were taken to hospitals. One person declined transport.

A Metrolink train was stopped on nearby tracks as crews tended to the victims and a railroad crossing signal was down in traffic lanes.

“The Metrolink train which was stopped for safety reasons was allowed to slowly continue once the tracks were clear,” Stewart said.

One of the vehicles required “a quick door pop” to free a person, she said.
