A motorist was in custody after a 9-year-old boy was fatally struck by a car Thursday morning outside an Austin elementary school on the West Side, police said.
The incident happened around 7:40 a.m. when a light-colored Chevy sedan struck the boy, who was in the street in the 4800 block of West Walton Street, Chicago police said.
The boy was taken to Stroger Hospital where he was pronounced dead, police said.
Police dispatch reports indicate the crash happened at 4820 W. Walton St., outside McNair Elementary School.
The driver of the sedan, a woman, was taken into custody and charges were pending.
