A crowd enjoyed the 8th annual Reseda Rising Art Walk
Hundreds of residents in the San Fernando Valley enjoyed the 8th annual Reseda Rising Art Walk on Saturday evening, a popular outdoor event that is part of Los Angeles City Councilmember Bob Blumenfield’s effort known as “Reseda Rising” to make the community seen as a destination for entertainment.
Reseda is seen by many as the suburban backdrop in the 1980s film, “The Karate Kid,” or the inspiration behind lyrics in singer-songwriter Tom Petty’s San Fernando Valley song, “Free Fallin,” according to a statement from Blumenfield’s office. But few know about Reseda’s thriving art community or murals commissioned through a Reseda Rising initiative that updates buildings and shows the community’s diversity, the statement said.

Blumenfield launched Reseda Rising to turn the area’s commercial corridor, Sherman Way, into a cultural hub. “The Reseda Rising Art Walk represents my vision for a transformed business and entertainment destination in the heart of the San Fernando Valley,” Blumenfield said in a prepared statement. “It’s exciting to see the projects and excitement for Sherman Way all come to fruition.”
