A single ticket holder in Ireland has just won the £208,000,000 EuroMillions jackpot.

The Irish National Lottery confirmed that one person has won the huge jackpot, equivalent to 250million Euros, this evening.

If someone in the UK had won the jackpot, they would have instantly become the biggest winner in EuroMillions history.

The EuroMillions jackpot had been sat at £208million for two weeks after it reached its maximum size earlier this month.

If nobody had won tonight’s draw, Friday’s draw would become a ‘Must Be Won’ draw in which the prize money would move down a tier until at least one valid ticket could claim the winnings.

While one person has won the massive jackpot, there are still plenty of other players who have walked away with life-changing prizes this evening.

In addition to the Millionaire Maker, three people matched five numbers and one lucky star to claim £6,287,001.20 each.

There were 16 ticket holders who matched all five main numbers but no lucky stars, to win £16,119.10, while 77 people matched four main numbers and two lucky stars to win £1,043.20.

Now that the maximum jackpot has been claimed, the EuroMillions draw on Friday, June 20 will have a top prize of around £14million.

Lucky winners past and present

The biggest winner in EuroMillions history is actually from Austria.

They claimed the huge 250million Euro jackpot back in March, which at the time was worth around £209million.

People in the UK have managed to strike gold in the past as well.

This includes two British people who bagged the EuroMillions jackpot of £83,000,000 in January and the £65,000,000 jackpot in February.

While many people may think that winning the large sum of money may be a blessing, it can also be a curse.

Studies in the US have found that winners are more likely to declare bankruptcy within three to five years compared to the average citizen.
