Customers who bought a popular ice cream tub at Aldi were warned to take it back to the shop, as it could be a health risk for some.
The store has recalled Gianni’s Cheeky Monkey Ice Cream because it contains wheat (gluten) which is not mentioned on the label.
A Food Standards Agency warning says: ‘This means the product is a possible health risk for anyone with coeliac disease and/or an allergy or intolerance to wheat (gluten).’
Affected tubs are 500ml and have a best before date of 14 August, 2027.
The warning, which was published yesterday, says: ‘Aldi are recalling the above product.

They warned that anyone who bought the product and has an allergy or intolerance to wheat or gluten should ‘not eat’ it, but instead return it for a full refund.
The product could be particularly dangerous for those with coeliac disease, an autoimmune condition where people cannot eat wheat or gluten.
According to the NHS, ‘your immune system attacks your own tissues when you eat gluten.
‘This damages your gut (small intestine) so your body cannot properly take in nutrients.’
This is because the body mistakes substances found inside gluten as a threat to the body and attacks them.
