Angel City FC, Utah settle for scoreless draw

SANDY, Utah — Danish goalkeeper Hannah Seabert recroded a shutout in her NWSL debut, but Angel City FC is still looking for its first win under Coach Alex Straus.

Eleventh-place Angel City and the last-place Utah Royals played to a scoreless tie on Friday night at America First Field.

The game was a meeting between the two least in-form teams in the 14-team NWSL. The Royals (1-11-4, seven points) are now winless in their last 11 games, while Angel City (4-7-5, 17 points) hasn’t won in its past eight and is 0-3-3 since Straus took over as head coach in June.

The closest Angel City came to scoring was when midfielder Kennedy Fuller clipped the top of the crossbar from a long-range shot in the 54th minute.

The Royals outshot the visitors 14-10 and had more shots on target, 5-2.

Utah’s two best chances came via set pieces in the first half. Royals forward Mina Tanaka failed to score with a header from 6 yards out on both occasions.

Seabert finished with five saves for Angel City, which was without starting goalkeeper Angelina Anderson due to a lower leg injury.
