Antioch officer shot man allegedly armed with knife

ANTIOCH — An Antioch officer shot a man who was allegedly armed with a knife, according to multiple law enforcement sources.

Police are investigating it as a fatal incident and invoked the countywide protocol for when a person is killed by an officer or injured so badly they’re expected to die.

Authorities haven’t released the name of the officer or the man who was shot. Police reportedly responded to a call on Osprey Drive in southeast Antioch on Monday morning about a man threatening a family member with a knife.

The officer who fired his duty weapon has been sequestered, per a standard countywide protocol for fatal law enforcement incidents. The Contra Costa District Attorney and Sheriff’s offices have been brought in for a third-party investigation, the sources said. Further details about what happened were not immediately available.

Shortly after the protocol was invoked, Antioch police put out a warning to the public of police activity on Osprey Drive. Police say there is no ongoing threat to public safety.
