Armed man remains barricaded in Arleta

An armed man continued a standoff with police Monday morning and remained barricaded inside a home in Arleta, authorities said.

Los Angeles Police Department officers were called at approximately 12:51 a.m. Monday to the intersection of Gruen Street and Canterbery Avenue regarding a report of a man with a gun, where they learned the suspect was armed and refusing to leave the residence, an LAPD spokesman told City News Service.

The armed suspect allegedly had threatened a family member inside a residence, according to the LAPD’s Media Relations Section, which added that the department’s SWAT team was called out to the location at 4 a.m.

ABC 7 reported the suspect is armed with several guns and a rifle.

Fox 11 reported the suspect’s mother told police the suspect had recently been released from the hospital and had threatened to shoot birds.
