Artis Restaurant and Lounge shuts down 2 weeks after mass shooting that left 4 dead

Artis Restaurant and Lounge will close its doors after a mass shooting this month killed four and wounded 14 others, the owners announced on social media.

The shooting happened around 11 p.m. July 2 at an album release party for Chicago rapper Mello Buckzz, whose boyfriend, Devonte Williamson, was killed in the attack.

“What was supposed to be a night of artistry, laughter, and connection turned into a moment of unimaginable fear and heartbreak,” an Instagram post from Artis reads.

Leon Henry, 25, Taylor Walker, 26, and Aviance King, 27, were also fatally shot outside Artis.

The owners wrote they made the decision “with a heavy heart, but a clear mind” and celebrated being a queer-owned, Black-owned and Brown-owned space.

“We refuse to let hate win, and we will not let fear deter us,” the post reads. “We will continue to grow through the pain and find ways to heal, together.”

No charges have been filed in the shooting.
