At least eight killed after car blast outside train station in Delhi

At least eight people are believed to be dead after a parked car exploded near a busy metro station in Delhi, India.

Police are on high alert, according to local media, and the blast injured more than a dozen other passersby.

Eight of the victims died en route to the hospital, according to Mint, with 15 others thought to be in serious condition.

The parked car was near the Red Fort metro station, which is in the southern area of Delhi.

A member of the Delhi Fire Department told The Hindu: ‘The intensity was quite high. Injuries are feared.’

A large police cordon is in place while police investigate. It’s not been confirmed that the explosion was caused by a bomb.

An empty shell of the car and the wrangled wreckage of nearby vehicles were seen in a video shared on X.

Video footage on social media showed multiple ambulances rushing towards the scene, while firefighters worked to tackle the blaze.

Pawan Khera, Chairman of the media & publicity department of India’s Congress, said: ‘In this hour of grief, we stand with the bereaved families and pray for the speedy recovery of the injured.

‘The government must ensure a thorough and speedy investigation into the incident.’
