At least four people have been confirmed dead after two shooters climbed onto a bus and opened fire.
The attack happened at a busy intersection in north Jerusalem, Israel, during the morning rush hour, sending commuters and passers-by fleeing from the bus stop.
Wounded and unconscious people were left lying in the road and on the pavement nearby, scattered with broken glass after the shooting at about 10.15am local time.
The Magen David Adom ambulance service identified the dead as one man in his 50s and three men in their 30s, the BBC reports.
Some 15 more people were injured, six seriously.
Israeli police say the two attackers were ‘neutralised’ soon after the shooting began, with one soldier and several civilians at the bus stop returning fire.

A spokesperson for Israel Police said: ‘Following this morning’s attack around 10.15am, two terrorists who arrived near the Ramot Junction in Jerusalem opened fire at people waiting at a bus stop.
‘As a result of the shooting, several people were killed and others were injured in varying degrees, according to medical sources.
‘In response to the terrorists’ attack, a soldier and several civilians at the bus stop engaged the attackers and returned fire.
‘The terrorists were neutralised, and their deaths were confirmed at the scene.
‘Large Israel Police forces from the Jerusalem district were dispatched to the scene and began evacuating the injured in coordination with medical teams, securing the area, and recovering several weapons, ammunition, and a knife used by the attackers.

‘Minister of National Security Itamar Ben-Gvir, Deputy Commissioner of the Israel Police Avshalom Peled, and the Jerusalem District Commander are present at the scene and are currently conducting a situation assessment.’
Israel’s Army Radio reported this morning that the death toll had increased to five, and police suspect the perpetrators may have been Palestinians from the occupied West Bank.
However the motive for the shooting and who carried it out has not yet been confirmed.
The ongoing war in Gaza has caused a surge of violence in Israel and the Israeli-occupied West Bank.
The last deadly mass shooting was in October 2024, when two Palestinians from the West Bank opened fire on a major boulevard and light rail station in the Tel Aviv area, killing seven people and wounding several more.
Hamas’ military wing claimed responsibility for the attack.
Benjamin Netanyahu, Israel’s prime minister, is holding an assessment with heads of security this morning following the shooting.
