Aurora motorcyclist killed in hit-and-run, police searching for driver

Police are searching for a driver involved in a fatal northwest Aurora hit-and-run near Lowry Park earlier this month, according to the department.

Officers responded to the crash near Dayton Street and East 12 Avenue at about 6:15 p.m. on Aug. 9, according to a news release from the Aurora Police Department.

The witness who called 911 told dispatchers that one of the involved vehicles sped away from the scene of the crash, leaving behind an injured motorcyclist, police said in the release.

The motorcyclist, identified by the Arapahoe County Coroner’s Office as 65-year-old Harvey Davis of Aurora, died from his injuries three days later, police said.

Davis was riding north on Dayton when he was struck by a 2003 Subaru Forester driving east on 12th, according to the police department. Investigators believe the Subaru driver ran a stop sign, causing the crash, before they fled the scene.

The Subaru was found abandoned near the crash and impounded by officers, police said.

No suspects had been publicly identified or arrested as of Monday.

Anyone with information about the crash is asked to contact Metro Denver Crime Stoppers at 720-913-7867. Tipsters can remain anonymous and could be eligible for a reward of up to $2,000.
