Aurora shooting on I-225 leaves driver critically wounded, police say

Aurora police are investigating a shooting that occurred early Saturday on Southbound I-225 between East Sixth and East Alameda avenues.

Police responded about 1:14 a.m. after being notified by a bystander via a 911 call. Police said the victim was shot while driving south on I-225 and then struck a barrier.

The victim was transported to a hospital with life-threatening injuries, according to police. The suspect had fled by the time police arrived. Police did not provide further details about the suspect.

Police closed the southbound lanes of I-225 for more than three hours, reopening the highway shortly before 5 a.m. according to a police spokesperson. No further details on the identities of the suspect or the victim were released by police.

The investigation is ongoing.
