We at the Alameda Unified School District are excited to announce that thanks to the generosity of Alameda citizens, four major facilities projects are expected to be finished by the end of this school year.

The upgrades to Alameda High School’s Kofman Auditorium should be completed in December. That project includes replacing the venue’s production lighting and controls; improving the audiovisual system; building four new backstage dressing rooms; replacing the stage fire curtain and balcony guardrails; and installing new battens for hanging heavy drapery above the stage.
Also in December, we expect the new athletic field at Encinal High School to be complete. This project includes a new turf field; regulation track; new lights; new bleachers and a press box; and facilities for field events. We understand that some community members were hoping the field would be open by Nov. 7 for the Island Bowl but finishing touches will still be in the works then.
The new Alameda High swim center, scheduled to open next summer, will include a competition swimming pool and practice pool; new lighting and a scoreboard; an outdoor shower area; perimeter fencing and gates; and new mechanical equipment. As part of this project, the school will also get one new tennis court.
If you’ve driven by Wood Middle School lately, you’ve seen how quickly this campus is growing! The new two-story classroom building, administration/library building, gymnasium and access road are expected to be complete in time for students and staff to move in for the 2026-27 school year.
Once Wood Middle School moves into its new campus, the temporary campus at the former Lum Elementary site will house students and staff from Otis Elementary School while that campus is completely rebuilt. That project will include a new two-story classroom building, administration offices and a library/media center, as well as a new shade structure, playground and outdoor learning spaces.
The AUSD is exploring bus service to and from the Otis campus to the Lum site to help families get their students to and from school.
All of these projects were funded by Measure B, a $298 million facilities bond that Alameda voters approved in 2022. We are deeply grateful for the support of our community in helping us create safe, modern instructional spaces and school facilities that reflect our community’s deep support for children and families.
