The Bulgarian clairvoyant is revered as the ‘Nostradamus of the Balkans’ for her apparent foretelling of global events
Blind mystic Baba Vanga – revered as the ‘Nostradamus of the Balkans’ for her apparent foretelling of global events – made several seemingly accurate predictions for the year 2024.
The Bulgarian clairvoyant, born Vangeliya Pandeva Gushterova in 1911, made a name for herself across Europe for predicting the Chernobyl disaster and the death of Princess Diana.
She claimed to have been able to see into the future after losing her sight aged just 12 when a freak storm hit her village in the mountainous area of Rupite, 100 miles from the capital city of Sofia.
Baba made a number of alarming predictions for these past 12 months, from worldwide economic turmoil to the use of biological weapons during war.
So, before we turn our attention to what’s in store (maybe) for us all in 2025, let’s have a look back at which premonitions have come true and which have not… yet.
Global economic crisis
Baba foretold a worldwide economic crisis that would drive up tensions.
Here in the UK, the economy may have grown slightly, but millions have struggled to live affordably with sky-high energy bills and surging grocery prices.

While 2024 may have seen 141 new billionaires join the ranks of the super-rich, a merciless cost of living crisis and lingering post-Covid price rises punished people across the world.
Environmental challenges
Few can argue with this one.
With a matter of days left, 2024 is forecast to be the hottest on record.
It is also set be the first with an average temperature of more than 1.5C above preindustrial levels, marking yet another escalation of the climate crisis.

The effects have been felt around the globe in the form of extreme weather events.
In Valencia, people are still struggling to recover from the devastating flash floods which killed 220 people – many of whom were trapped in cars or homes when the tsunami-like wall of water hit.
Another successful prediction was environmental challenges (Picture: AP)
The record-breaking Hurricane Beryl wreaked havoc in parts of the Caribbean and US.
With wind speeds topping a terrifying 160mph, it became the earliest category five Atlantic hurricane in a century.
And the typhoon season in the Philippines saw a staggering six storms in the space of just a month.
Medical advancements
Baba also seemed on firm ground with predictions for advancements in the treatment of cancer and Alzheimer’s, the Mirror reports.
This year, new tests were created to detect cancer in patients under 18 and in the treatment of cervical cancer.

There was also hope for those suffering with Alzheimer’s, with new clinical trials indicating the effects of the disease can be slowed.
In the UK, the first ever disease modifying treatments were also approved for use.
Which predictions are yet to materialise – and what could 2025 bring?
One prophecy which does not appear to have come to fruition – mercifully – is the use of biological weapons by a superpower.
Moving into the New Year, Baba’s predictions remain both intriguing and terrifying.
One is a devastating war in Europe between two nations.
While some may see Russia’s war on Ukraine as proof enough of that, it could also suggest a worrying widening of the conflict.
Baba has also forecast telepathy becoming a reality and first contact with alien life.
