Buses will replace service between three BART stations and the Red Line will be closed Saturday and Sunday as updates are made to the tracks.
The closures will cause significant delays to normal weekend times, and the last trains of the night run be earlier than normal, BART said.
The closures will allow BART to work on replacing the track’s interlockings — which are segments of railway that allow trains to safely move from track to track — between the 19th Street, MacArthur and Rockridge stations in Oakland, BART announced in a news release. The work will begin this weekend and take place over six non-consecutive weekends through the end of the year.

BART will provide free buses to take riders between the three affected stations, but the change may cause delays up to 40 minutes on closure weekends. In place of the Red Line, which normally runs from Richmond to the Peninsula six days a week, service to and from Millbrae will be through the Yellow Line.
BART advised that it may be quicker for some riders to bike between stations in place of taking the buses. The transport buses will be equipped with bicycle racks to accommodate riders with bikes, but motorized bikes or eBikes may not be allowed on board.
The affected weekends are June 22-23, July 20-21, August 17-18, September 21-22, October 19-20 and November 2-3, BART announced.
