The stink of smoke and ugliness of smog created from two of California’s biggest wildfires won’t be doing much dissipating before Thursday, and Bay Area air officials on Wednesday extended a current air advisory another 24 hours through Thursday.

The advisory comes as the Sites Fire in Colusa County continues to pour smoke into the atmosphere. That fire had consumed 15,656 acres by 10:45 a.m. Friday and was just 5% contained. Also burning was the Point Fire in Sonoma County, which Cal Fire said is 50% and won’t get much bigger than 1,207 acres it’s consumed.
The Bay Area Air Quality Management District said the Sites Fire is having the more significant effect. Heavy haze and air that smells smoke have settled upon the region since Sunday night.
The district issued Spare the Air alerts on Sunday and Monday, the first two of the year.
The air quality conditions measured by AirNow, the U.S. Air Quality Index reader, showed the fine particulate matter at mostly good levels throughout region at 10 a.m. The air near San Jose State was moderately healthy.
