Bay Area man accused of flashing hikers in state park

Marin County sheriff’s deputies arrested a man suspected of exposing himself to several people at China Camp State Park.

Four incidents have been reported to authorities since March, sheriff’s Lt. Brennan Collins said. In each case, a man appeared on a trail and exposed himself to a female hiker before running away. Witnesses had similar descriptions of the man.

A sheriff’s deputy patrolling the park last Thursday saw a man who matched the descriptions. The man allegedly provided a false name, but the deputy determined his actual identity and discovered he had been arrested recently for alleged indecent exposure in Sonoma County.

A victim from one of the China Camp incidents identified the man as the alleged flasher, the sheriff’s office reported.

Manolo Romero-Cortez, 25, of San Rafael was booked into Marin County Jail on suspicion of indecent exposure, disobeying a court order and forgery. He remained in custody Thursday in lieu of $50,000 bail.

The Marin County District Attorney’s Office has filed charges, and a trial date is tentatively set for Jan. 5.
